🚋 The free KC Streetcar

The easiest way to get around central Kansas City. It's free, it comes about every 10 minutes, and every stop has level boarding.

Where it goes

One line with 18 stops, running north–south. Most of the route follows Main Street; at the north end it runs through the River Market (Walnut and Grand) before ending at the Riverfront.

How often and when it runs

• About every 10 minutes through most of the day and evening.
• Service starts around 5:15–5:30 AM; the last trips run between about midnight and 1:30 AM, depending on the day.
• Hours change for holidays and special events — check KC Streetcar's hours and real-time arrivals before a late trip.

How to ride

1. Find the stop for your direction — northbound toward downtown and the Riverfront, southbound toward Midtown, the Plaza and UMKC.
2. Step on. No fare, no ticket, no tap.
3. Watch and listen for your stop, then step off.

Accessibility

• KC Streetcar says it offers 100% level boarding at all of its stops — board at the middle doors for level boarding.
• Wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, strollers and bikes are welcome.

Connecting to buses

The streetcar is free; RideKC buses are $2 (contactless card or phone — no cash on board). Common connections:

• Airport (KCI): the 229 bus stops on 11th/12th Streets near Central, a few blocks from Metro Center. See the airport guide.
• Hospital Hill and Troost: the Troost MAX bus leaves downtown from Wyandotte near 11th/12th Streets.
• Brookside and Waldo: bus 50 connects with the streetcar at the UMKC stop.

Good to know

• Crown Center doesn't have its own stop — get off at Union Station and walk about 6 minutes.
• For the Nelson-Atkins, use Art Museums (45th & Main), not UMKC.
• The Plaza stop is at Cleaver II & Main, on the east edge of the Country Club Plaza; the heart of the shopping district is a few blocks west.
• For the Convention Center and T-Mobile Center, use Power & Light (14th & Main).
