Accessible trips around Kansas City βΏ
Accessibility statement
mobilityKC is built first for people who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters β and for anyone walking, riding the bus or streetcar, taking a rideshare or driving around Kansas City.
What we do
- Accessible travel information: how bus lifts and ramps work, where the streetcar has level boarding, walking distances from stops to popular places, and RideKC Freedom paratransit β in our accessible travel guide.
- Barrier reporting: Report a barrier tells you who fixes a broken sidewalk, missing curb ramp or blocked path in Kansas City, Missouri and writes the report for you.
- An accessible website: we aim for WCAG 2.2 Level AA β keyboard and screen-reader support for the trip planner, strong color contrast, large tap targets, visible focus, reduced motion, a larger-text option, and Spanish for the trip planner.
What we can't do yet
- Trip directions come from Google Maps. Our planner hands your trip to Google Maps; tap Options β Wheelchair accessible there for transit routes. We don't yet check curb ramps, hills or sidewalk conditions along a route.
- Stop accessibility data is limited. RideKC's schedule data doesn't say which bus stops have sidewalks, curb ramps or shelters, so we can't show that for individual stops.
- Walking distances are approximate and measured to a venue's address, not a specific accessible entrance.
- Barrier reporting covers Kansas City, Missouri for city-maintained sidewalks and streets. Other cities are coming later.
- Maps are visual. Everything you can do on a map can also be done with the text fields and buttons.
- Guides are in English; the trip planner is in English and Spanish.
